Clubs SA Kokoda Trek - 2018 Winners

Congratulations! Such an amazing opportunity. We can’t wait to hear the stories when you get back.

Just a little on their reasons for wanting to do Kokoda:

I would love to complete the Kokoda trail because I see it as a great opportunity to work as a team, become a leader and to gain more confidence again. I love meeting new people and I feel this will be a great opportunity to do that also.

It is a challenge I know, but trust me I am definitely up for the challenge. I am athletic and I am always doing sport, I am a personal trainer also which means I am always active.

I am so thankful that there are people out there that would love to sponsor young people to give them this opportunity to gain confidence and leadership skills and really challenge themselves in a team environment. It's just amazing how kind some people are.

I have always wanted to trek the Kokoda trail, however my motives for this have changed over the past couple of years. Upon leaving school the physically challenging aspects of the trek really appealed to me.

Since then I have been fortunate enough to travel all around South East Asia, most of Europe, southern Canada and the West coast of the USA. Having done little research about the Vietnamese War, Cambodian killing fields/jail and World Wars prior to my travels I was absolutely captivated by its history. I now realize that trekking the Kokoda trail will be far more than just a physical challenge but also a mental and emotional roller-coaster.

If I were given the privileged opportunity to undertake this trek it would not only be the most physically and mentally challenging experience of my life but I believe it would be true "source of inspiration, motivation, adventure and reassurance" for years to come.
