2020 Mid Coast Community Challenge
In 2013 the Mid Coast Group of Surf Clubs (Aldinga,Moana,South Port,Port Noarlunga and Christies Beach) held an event to challenge their members Iron person abilities.
Come 2014 the Mid Coast group extended the invitation to all the Surf Life Saving Clubs in South Australia to join the event, The Mid Coast Challenge was born and continues to be held each year.
The Mid Coast Challenge covers all age groups of Surf Life saving starting at under 9’s through to masters. It see’s every age group on the beach at one time, which doesn’t happen in many events. It takes in all the aspects our Surf Life Saving competitors train in ….Swimming, Board and Ski.
The Mid Coast Challenge course is set in an “M” shape to challenge competitors and to also allow for spectators to take in the whole event. For example Under 17’s compete in an 800m Swim, 300m Run, 1200m Board and a 1.8km run. The event is completed by lunchtime so competitors aren’t on the beach all day.
Through the hard work and dedication of the team behind the Mid Coast Community Challenge, prizes are sourced, entry fees are kept to a minimum and infrastructure and facilities are optimised.
In 2017, we saw the name of the event change to "The Mid Coast Community Challenge". The addition of Youth Group team Swim and a Community Swim.
Clubs SA were an integral part of the success of the recent 2020 challenge which was held on January 19th at Port Noarlunga. With grant money received the event committee were able to invest in much needed materials such as competitor vests and signage.
We look forward to seeing this fantastic community event continue to grow in stature in the Surf Life Saving calendar from year to year.
